Every year in November an invasion takes over St. Louis in the form of the Flyover Comedy Festival. Stand-up comics, improvisers, sketch comedians, and storytellers from around the country invade The Grove neighborhood in St. Louis for a weekend of comedy. The mission of Flyover is to showcase local and national comedic talent in the city of St. Louis. Night 1, Thursday, did not disappoint.

Flyover Festival takes place across multiple venues in The Grove neighborhood of St. Louis, but I was blessed to be able to post up at the Side Stage of The Improv Shop for back-to-back-to-back performances of my friends and family that night.

The festival started with my wife Abby Vatterott’s one-woman show Marvelous Me at 7p (which I filmed, hence no photos), then a two-team improv show consisting of Improvised One-Hit Wonder (Adam Vatterott & Erik Diaz) and Your Crazy Man (Scott Leeker & Scott Weinberg) at 8p, ending with a stand-up showcase headlined by Saturday Night Live alumni Luke Null.

The Scotts (Leeker & Weinberg) perform as Your Crazy Man in Flyover Comedy Festival at The Improv Shop St. Louis.

It was great to see Luke Null live on stage in St. Louis. Luke came up the Chicago improv comedy scene during the same time Abby and I did, performing often in Abby’s weekly variety show Lindsey’s Calling at MCL Chicago (the comedy theatre I ran from 2013-2018). His blend of music and comedy makes for a hilarious set that never disappoints. I still remember and sing a song he wrote years ago in Chicago.

Luke may have been the headliner but the featured comedians brought the funny as well. Hosted by St. Louis comedian Bobby Jaycox, the night featured: Scott Shaffer, Julia Stone, Mychael Anthony, Zach Wycuff, and Scott James.
